Sid & Chand Sahrawat – Chef & Owners

Chef and restaurateur Sid Sahrawat has spent ten years making his indelible mark on the Auckland dining scene with acclaimed restaurants Sidart and Cassia and now Sid at The French Cafe.

In 2014 Sid and wife Chand opened sophomore restaurant Cassia, a contemporary Indian offering in Fort Lane. The couple had a long-held desire to showcase their heritage through contemporary cuisine; Cassia was Auckland’s first restaurant to offer modern Indian dining.

At Cassia Sid marries his creative culinary skills with the traditional dishes he has grown up with in India – classic spice and flavour combinations reworked with contemporary and local New Zealand ingredients.

Prateek Arora leads the front of house.  Chand Sahrawat acts as operations manager for the restaurants and is the contact for all media enquiries.

Prateek  has over 7 years experience in the hospitality industry. Originally from New Delhi in India, Prateek moved to New Zealand over 7 years ago hoping to learn more about New Zealand wine and cuisine. Prateek went to Aspire International Institute and completed a Diploma in Hospitality Management. He then worked as Bar manager at Cassia until 2018, during this time Prateek won Metro Restaurant personality of YEAR 2018.

Since then Prateek has grown his Career becoming assistant restaurant manager and restaurant manager in 2020.

Vinayak started training under chef Sid Sahrawat as an apprentice chef at Sidart while finishing in Diploma in Cookery from NSIA. He also gained experience at Sky City. After graduation Vinayak got offered the role of a commis chef at Sidart. He grew his career stepping up and honing his skills at Sidart until he became Sous Chef. When the Sahrawat's bought Iconic French Cafe, Vinayak moved to  Sid at The French Cafe to work as Sous Chef. 

Vinayak is passionate about Indian cuisine and has taken over the helm at Cassia as Head Chef in 2020.
